Also called: Meadow Sweet, Steeple Bush, and White Leaf
This versatile herb can be used for other conditions besides bleeding of the lungs. It
can be used to also treat: Diarrhea, Cholera and loss of appetite. It is a small shrub that grows from 2 to 4 feet high with many simple, erect,
round, downy, hard, brittle and purplish stems furnished with alternate leaves which are dark green or
brownish and covered with a rusty white beneath. The flowers are small, very numerous, red or purple, and grow at the end of the stems in an
irregular cluster. The herb can be found growing across the United States on low grounds and in meadows. The herb flowers in July and August.
The fruit is tough and hangs onto the plant throughout the winter where it is food for winter birds and
animals.
The herb is a tonic and astringent and useful in treating diarrhea and cholera. As a
tonic it can be used where there is no appetite. The Osage American Indians chewed the herbs dried roots and stems and drank a cold tea of the
herb for bleeding of the lungs. The Indian women used an infusion as a wash for vaginal infections. A
decoction of the herb is made using one ounce of the dried herb to a pint of water. The dose is
from 1to 2 fluids

HOLLYHOCK (Althaea Rosea)
A beautiful garden flowering herb found in many gardens across the United States and
in the wild, this herb’s fragrant flowers can be made into a tea and used to reduce inflammation of the
lungs as well as swelling of the stomach, bowels, throat and urinary tract.
Prepare two ounces of the dried flower petals by seeping in a pint of warm water for two hours. Does is 6 ounces of the tea twice a day until
problem subsides.
HOREHOUND (Marrubium Vulgare)
Also called: White Horehound
This herb has tonic and laxative actions to alleviate inflammative problems of the
lungs. The herb can also be used to treat coughs and colds and it grows along fences and roadsides to the height of about one foot. The leaves
are deeply notched, wrinkled and are pairs on long, thick foot-stalks. The herb gives off a musky odor and
its flowers are white.
This herb is prepared as a tea for treatment of lung inflammation. 4 ounces of dried
herb are seeped in a pint of warm water for two hours and the dose is from 4 to 6 ounces of the tea each day until relief is reached. The herb is
